Cory Baggett on a rain-soaked rail trail

Founded by a meteorologist and avid rail‑trail rider.

Hi, my name is Cory Baggett. I built RailTrailWx as a meteorologist and devoted cyclist with thousands of miles ridden on rail trails.

When planning a ride, the same challenge kept surfacing: choosing the right trail and the right time meant trying to digest weather forecasts of wind, temperature, humidity, and precipitation across many trails and days and then interpreting these weather forecasts into my own personal comfort. This challenge is made even more difficult by the fact that weather can vary dramatically across trail corridors with varied terrain and microclimates.

This challenge is personal as well as scientific. We all have different comfort thresholds. The same conditions can feel energizing or miserable depending on the activity, the trail, and the person.

RailTrailWx grew from that frustration and from the joy of getting it right: heading out before the wind builds and riding home with a tailwind at your back.

Ultimately, RailTrailWx saves me time and mental energy, helps me get more enjoyment out of the trails, and keeps me riding more consistently throughout the year. I hope it can do the same for you.
